OBITUARY
Mrs. Gladys Cox The death occurred at Christchurch yesterday afternoon, after a brief illness, of Mrs Gladys Cox, 31 Pavitt Street, Christchurch. Born at Greymouth, 45 years ago, she was a member of the well-known Meredith family. As a child she was educated at Greymouth, and moved to Christchurch with hersparents when a young woman. She is survived by her husband, Mr Harold Cox, one son, Geoffrey, a daughter, Miss Helen Cox, her father, three brothers, Stanley, Herbert and Archibald Meredith and one sister, Miss Florence Meredith. Mr G. Harker, of Greymouth, is an uncle of the deceased. The funeral will take place at Christchurch.
William James Johnson The death occurred late last evening of Mr. William James Johnson, a well-known waterside worker. Born at Kanieri 81 years ago, he had spent the greater -part of his lite at Greymouth, but resided in Australia for some years when a young man. For many years he was employed by the Greymouth Harbour Board, and of late on the waterfront,. retiring about ten years ago. In he was a well-known athlete, he being the winner of many trophies for running, he also took a keen interest in all kinds of sport. . i . The late Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife; two sons, Matthew (Wellington), Forster (Greymouth); and by two daughters, Mrs. H. Holder (Christchurch),’ and Mrs. G. Lennox (Palmerston North); one brother. Albert (Auckland) and one sister, Mrs. Smith (Gisborne). The funeral will take place at Greymouth.
