SOCCER Soccer Tournament

The South Island Schoolboy’s Tournament opened at Westport with teams from Otago, South Canterbury, Canterbury, West Coast and Buller. In- the first game, Buller’ “B” defeated South Canterbury by three goals to nil. B. Lavery scored two goals and L. Arneson one. The best of the visitors were P. A.ingland (right back), and Williams (right half), and Taiaroa showed promise. West Coast defeated Buller by three goals io one. Brown Shield P.A. WANGANUI, August 29. The Wanganui soccer team retained the Brown Shield in a match played here on Saturday, defeating Manawatu by five goals to nil. EMMS SHIELD WESTPORT, Aug. 29 Westland retained the Emms Shield when it defeated Buller by 3 goals to 1 at Westport. Test Match CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 29. Australia defeated New Zealan'd on Saturday in the Test match by seven goals to nil.
