AUSTRALIANS V. OTAGO P.A. . DUNEDIN. Aug. 2k Thirty teams are competing in the Dominion championship women’s hockey tournament which began in Dunedin on Saturday. The teams will play in two sections. In the first the “K” Cup is at stake, and in the minor section, teams will compete for the Mills Cup. A feature of the tournament is the presence of the Australian touring team (which won its first match 1 against Otago by three goals to nil. It was the hardest game which the tourists have been ialled upon to play since their arrival in New Zealand. In the spectacular opening ceremony all the competing teams marched past the grandstand, the parade being led bv the Australians in their attractive green and gold colours. They were followed by Wellington, present holders of the “K” Cup. From the early stages of the game with Otago, Australia impressed with dazzling stickwork and flick passing, which, with its accuracy and effectiveness, rather disconcerted, the Otago players. RANGERS WIN NIMMO ROSE BOWL . Defeating Pacific by four goals to nil, Cobden Rangers won the Nimmo Rose Bowl for the second year in succession.' They also won the championship cup, and were' runners-up in the Ken Balchin Cup. Runanga, winners of the Ken Balchin Cup. defeated Greymouth by four goals to one, and thus were runners-up in the last round Cobden and Wheelmen drew, four-all. In a friendly game, a Cobden eleven drew with Wesley (Westport), the score being two all. For Cobden the scorers were J. Carter and V. Goodall, and N. Gillovic netted for Wesley. The Cobden goal-keeper, L. Cooper, played an outstanding game. Gillovic was the pick of the Wesley team. f — i Rep. Team For Quatre Bras Competition The following team has been chosen by the selector, Mr I. Burn, to represent West Coast in the Quatre Bras Cup series of games played at Christchurch on Saturday next. The team leaves on Friday night’s goods train, returning on Saturday evening:— A.
