SINGAPORE, Aug. 9. Police and military forces to-day killed three terrorists in a gun battle at an estate in the Kluang area ot Johore. The narty 'surprised 20 men eating a meal >n a hut on the edge of the jungle. The police opened lire and hit three. The remainder returned the fire and then fled to the jungle. One terrorist, before dying, confessed that the gang recently carried out an attack on the Kahan police station, which was successfully repulSe in Trengganu to-night. Chinese terrorists murdered a Kuomintang Chinese contractor at a tin mine at Kemaman. Four laboureres are missing. but are believed to be hiding in the jungle. CHINESE SUPPORT FOR GOVERNMENT f — (Received August 10. 10.10 p.m.) SINGAPORE, August 10. One insurgent was killed and sixteen were arrested yesterday when a combined police and military force discovered a well-disguised jungle hideout in the Kualakubu district. 50 miles north of Kualalumpur. More Chinese have applied for permission to form their own Johore Chinese auxiliary police force to help the authorities to combat terrorism. Observers believe this is an imr portant development in the Malayan political situation, in which the majority of the large Chinese populace thusfar has remained inactive in the face of the terrorist challenge to the Government.
