Mr. S. S. Dean ex-President of the New Zealand Rugby Union has left on his return to Wellington. Messrs G. Peters and B. Hands left yesterday morning on their return to Palmerston North. A Montreal cable states MisS Mary C. Wootton, of Christchurch, (Miss New Zealand), arrived: there on Monday, by air from New York on the final lap of her around-the-world tour. On Tuesday she was to leave for a> day in Toronto. Thence she will sail the Great Lakes to Fort William, and will entrain for Winninee? From there she will go to Lake Louise in the Rockies. Thence she travels to Vancouver by train, and to San Francisco by air. She will return to New Zealand after an. absence of five months.—Press Assn. A former well-known West Coast farmer, Mr. Hugh Gilmer’, died on Monday at his home in Christchurch, where he had resided for the past ten years. ' Previously he had engaged in dairying at ,Totara Flat, where he promoted a butter factory, ; and assisted in the establishment of the lime works at Ross. The elder son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gilmer, he took an active interest in the Farmers’ Union, and was a member of the Greymouth Jockey Club and the Robert Burns Masonic Lodge. Predeceased by his wife about 18 months ago, he is survived by four sisters, Mesdames Dent (Oxford). Reid' (Matamata), and Campbell (Longburn), and Miss Ruth Gilmer (Wellington), and one brother, Mr. W. Gilmer (Matamata). The following are guests at the Albion Hotel:—Messrs G. Henderson, A. G.
