WERE BABIES CONFUSED BY NURSES?
Couples Claim To Make An Exchange After Three Years (Received August 10, 7.40 p.m.) MELBOURNE, August 10. An order nisi was granted to-day by Mr. Justice Barry, calling upon Mr. and Mrs. Noel Jenkins to show cause why a writ of habeas corpus should not be granted, requiring them to surrender a child, known as Noella Jenkins, aged three years. Mrs. William Morrison charged that the staff of the Kyneton District Hospital confused the identity of the two baby girls, born within minutes of each other, three years ago. The Morrisons propose that the Jenkinses should accept a child whom they have reared as their daughter, and who is known as Johanne Lee Morrison, in rSiturln for The child Noella Jenkins. The Judge ruled that a prima facie case had been made out for the Morrisons’ suit, and he granted an order so that the matter could be properly investigated. Mrs. Morrison made an affidavit that, after the birth, a Sister at Kyneton Hospital brought her ,ai dark-haired baby, which carried no identification tag, and that, as this baby grew, it became unlike herself, her husband, or their other children. At a race meeting, she said, she saw Mrs. Jenkins wheeling a cram in which there was a fair, blue-eyed child. Witness said that she herself had blue eyes, and Mrs. Jenkins had brown eyes. She added that blood tests had been taken of the Morrisons and of the child, Johanne Lee Morrison. These proved that she could not be their child. The Jenkinses had refused to have a blood test taken of the child Noella. 51 Auckland Cases Of Paralysis P.A. AUCKLAND, Aug. 10.
