N.Z. PINUS TIMBER TO TEST SOUTH AFRICAN MARKET

WELLINGTON, Aug. 10. To test the possibilities of the market in South Africa, a trial shipment of 400 board feet of kiln-dried pin us insignis has been placed on board tlie Erica, which will sail from Wellington for Laurenco Marques to-day. The timber is strapped in bundles each weighing a ton. This method has several advantages. It cuts loading time, and therefore costs, and also makes its disposal easier in ports where timber is sold from the wharf An official of the State Forestry Service said that plans were being developed for a considerable increase during the next few years in the export of pinus. A new market would be needed when the Australian allocation was taken up.
