SOCCER BLACKBALL WINS BLACKMUN CUP
Blackball, the holders, retained the Blackmun Cup in the match against Greymouth at) Blackball on Saturday by one goal to nil. The first spell was lively and entertaining, but both teams seemed to deteriorate in the second half. They lacked dash and ball control, and only in the closing stages did Blackball liven up to become a danger. The only goal was scored in the first half by Philips with a hard shot, from a centre by Allen. For the winners, Lester had an easy day in goal. McNicol and Buchanan gave nothing away at fullback. McMahon and McGuire gave good displays at half-back. Allen and Philips went well in the forwards, with Le Compte, Rarity and Morgan putting in good work on occasions. For Grey, Tolchard was good in goal without being overworked. Hogg played a fine game and Newton also did well, but made to much use of the touch-line. Wallwork and Tones were useful among the halves, and Boyd and Malpass were the best of a forward line. The referee was Mr J. Rarity. MATCHES FOR SATURDAY Semi-final, Blackmun Cup: Cobden v.
