BASKETBALL AUSTRALIAN TEAM ARRIVES IN N.Z.

P.A. AUCKLAND, Aug. 9. The Australian women’s basketball team, the first International side to visit New Zealand, arrived in Auckland by flying boat from Sydney this afternoon, to begin a five weeks’ tour of the Dominion. The team comprises of eleven players, a manager and two umpires. They left to-night for Wellington, and they will fly to the South Island to-morrow to open their tour at Timaru. COMBINED TEAM TO PLAY AUSTRALIANS NELSON, August 9 The combined basketball team to represent the Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, West Coast and Hokitika associations against the Australians at Nelson on August 19 has been selected as follows: —Forwards, N. Nicholls (Nelson), A. McFarlane (Marlborough), P. Murphy (Nelson), K. Kennedy (West Coast); centres, V. Burtenshaw (Marlborough), N. Burgess (West Coast), N. Esau (Nelson) captain; defence, A. Kirby (Nelson), F. Fyfe (Buller), P. Flaherty (Hokitika).
