Ship’s carpenters were entitled to the same dining service in ships; as engineers, said the New South Wales Conciliation Commissioner, Mr Hamiltnn Knight, in the lAibitiation Court, when ordering that the liner “Aorangi’s” carpentei' should be served with meals in the second-class saloon. Previously, the engineers had threatened not to sign on for rhe Vancouver trip, starting on August 19 if the carpentei' were allowed to eat in theii' messroom. The. stewards refused tn service a special messroom because it was too far from, tne kitchens.
