BLOCKADE OF QUEENSLAND PLANNED BY UNIONS AT SYDNEY MEETING

(Rec. 10.40) SYDNEY, August 9 A conference of Federal industrial unions decided to-day on direct action on some date to be fixed, failing an early release of those Queensland union leaders who have been gaoled for not paying their fines. The conference was attended by representatives of the waterside workers, Australian railways, seamen, amalgamated engineering, and ironworkers Url The * conference asked the A.C.T.U. to call an emergency committee in Brisbane by Friday, where unions will meet to plan a stoppage. It is believed that any stoppage would be limited to Queensland.
