Quarter Million Loss In Melbourne At Suburban Fire
(Rec. 9.30) MELBOURNE, Aug. 8 Crowds, who were looking < on, stampeded when a petrol drum exploded during a fire which wiped out almost an entire block of shops in the Melbourne suburb of Brighton. Some of the people received minor burns, and a few, who fell during the rush to safety, were 'badly bruised. At the height of the fire the pnI lookers were showered with blazing fragments when drums of petrol and cylinders blew up. The damage is expected to about £250,000. Firemen believe that the blaze started in a garage which housed a number of trucks, all of which were destroyed.
