WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

Mrs Brereton presided over a very good attendance at the August meeting of Kutuku Women’s Institute. The half-yearly Federation meeting report was handed, round to members. One new member was welcomed. It 'was reported that lour parcels of food and soap, and three of fat had been dispatched to hnxs in Cumberland and Cornwall, England. Seventeen Peggy Squares were handed in to be sen.r. to CORSO. It was decided to send 10s toward adoption of a child. Invitations were received from Reefton and Greymouth institutes. The Horticultural Society wrote regarding the entering of flowers for the spring schedule.. It was reported that two members would attend the Drama. School. The Roll Call was: What I’d most like to do on 'a rainy cay. The majority of members seemed to have the . sameidea. Mesdames P. and W. Brereton conducted the social half haur, holding a mock: court, which created a great deal ot amusement, memoers putting their ‘fines’ in a lucky dip. Mrs I. Molloy won a pick the prettiest picture competition. Mesdames J. Dalzell and W. Pickering gave a number of items. The winners of The monthly competition were as follows Flowers, Mrs W. Dalzell 1; Mrs P. Brereton 2. Wandering shilling. Mr« Priest. Handwork, Mrs Bryan 1; Mrs W. Brereton 2. Hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Nestor and Priest.
