U.S. Communist Party Reiterates Ban on Former Leader
(Rec. 9.50). NEW YORK, Aug. 5. The American Communist Party’ at its National Convention to-night, unanimously rejected an appeal by its former leader, Earl Browder, for his reinstatement in the Party. Mr Browder was expelled from the Party two years ago, after being accused of favouring a policy of cooperation with capitalism. ’ A Party spokesman said that the reason for rejecting his appeal was that Mr Browder sought to rejoin the Party in order to build up his own faction within it. He also said Mr Browder had continued his antiMarxist views in his writings and in other activities since 1946, and he had failed to acknowledge his errors.
