[Our own Correspondent] Mrs J. Rarrison, of Cobden, is visiting Mrs S. Dean here. Mr and Mrs Hayes, of Cobden, were recent visitors to the township. Mrs N. Hampton, who is leaving to reside in Ikamatua, was farwelled. by the Plunket Society and was presented with a spray and cup and saucer and plate by Mrs Schofield. The evening was spent in games and items. Mrs Hampton suitaoly replied. Cobden girls basketball team played a friendly match with the local team last Sunday. The game resulted in a win for Cobden by 20 goals to o. After afternoon tea, the visitors were challenged by a team of local lads, and Cooden again won by six goals to four. Outstanding players for the lads were P. Kirwin, K. Dobbin, H. Scott, and J. Purcell. . A social and dance was held, in the Miners’ Hall on Saturday evening to farewell Miss Betty White, who is leaving to reside in Wellington. Miss J Lims presented the guest of the evening with a string of pearls; from the single girls, and a well filled envelope from the public. Mrs Wynne, on behalf of the basketball club piedented Miss White with a powuer compact. Mr J.' O'Flaherty replied on her oohalf. The evening was spent in danoinß and musical items-.. A meeting, probably one ol tne largest held in Waiuta was held in the school on Saturday evening last loi the purpose oi forming a Home and School Association. After the purposes of such a body were explained by the convenor, a strong executive committee was elected and the next meet ing was arranged for August 21, when an even greater attendance is expected The enthusiasm displayed auguis well for the development of the school and co-operation between the schoo and the community. _
