N.Z. Manufacturers Want State to Pay More to Scientists
WELLINGTON, Aug 3. Mr S. Howard Hunter, president of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation said to-day: ‘'‘Long range industrial research is seriously handicapped in New Zealand because the official salary limit fails to attract the most suitable type of scientific investigator.” This was The view taken by his council, which had decided to raise the question with, the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. A. H. Nordmever. He said several important subjects for long-range investigation were mentioned at the council’s discussion. It was stated there was n call for scientific advice on many day-to-day problem" of production. The wider aspect o research, with a view to expanding the Dominion’s industrial activities was, it was stated by members, retarded and made almost impossible by failure to secure sitably-trained scientific staff of the required standing.
