LONDON August 4. The Israeli Government has warned Colonel A. Lundstrom, chief of staff of the United Nations truce observers, that Israeli will detain the air crews of British planes land.ng at Haifa, because Israeli objects to Britons landing in its territory, says Reuter’s Tel Aviv correspondent. Meanwhile, the United Nations observers attached to Israeli and Egyptian armies are meeting at Karatika to plan the movement of local road traffic. U.N.O. REFUSAL OF INTERNATIONAL COURT ADJUDICATION The U.N.O. Security Council at Lake Success refused to refer the Palestine problem to the International Court of Justice. Syria had proposed that the Court should rule on the legality of Israel as a State and on whether the Arabs were aggressors. Britain supported the proposal, but it failed to get the necessary seven votes. . . Reuter’s correspondent in Tel Aviv savs that five British officials of the Jerusalem Electric Corporation who were seized by the Irgun Zvai Leumi and handed over to the Israeli civil police last week appeared before the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court on a .general charge of espionage against Israel They were remanded for lb days. They are Thomas Michael Bryant, Thomas A. Downes, Alfred Leech, Frederick Sylvester, and William Hawkins. “Reports from Egypt indicate that murders are being committed daily in the streets which the police are making little active effort to prevent”, says the diplomatic correspondent of The Times. “Not only Jews, but Britons, Americans, and Greeks have been murdered, stripped, and robbed. About 50 murders have occurred in the last three weeks. “These attacks are a result of antiJewish feeling spreading into a gem eral xenophobia”.
