More than half of GreymouthL quota of £5OOO for the United Nations’ Appeal for Needy Children has been reached, total subscriptions up to last evening being £2662 19s 7d. A notable contribution yesterday was the donation of over £24 made by the master and crew of the Kakapo at present in port. N.Z. APPEAL REACHES £175,000
P.A. WELLINGTON, June 4. The total of the United Nations Appeal for Children reached £1(5,000 on Thursday night, said the Dominion Appeal Organiser, Mr R. Malcolm, today. Hp added that yesterday’s contributions direct to Wellington headquarters amounted to £2130.
Tha Consul for Greece, Mr T. E. Y. Seddon, accompanied by the Vice-Con-sul, Mr S. Garland, to-day handed in £4BO for the appeal funu. The money, said Mr Malcolm, was collected through the Greek organisation in Wellington by a committee set up as recently as May 23. Funds were still being collected throughout the country, he continued. A telegram from the Chatham Islands reported that the amount to date is £4OO. The Dunedin schoolboy, Kenneth Clydesdale, who opened the appeal in his home town just over a month ago, has completed his New Zealand tour, and will return to Dunedin from Wellington by air to-morrow. Kenneth has given 63 public addresses, mostly to theatre audiences, workers’ meetings, and on the air.
