Opera House New Showing; “Desert Fury." starring John Hodiak and Lizabeth Scott. “DESERT FURY" One of the most unusual and fascinating love stories to reach the screen in some time “Desert Fury,’’ a Hal Wallis technicoloUr production now showing at the Opera House. The modern romance, set against the grandeur of the ageless desert, is that of a restless and rebellious girl who thinks she has found the man she wants, a man no woman could love—and live. Tawny, throaty Lizabeth Scott co-starred with John Hodiak and Burt Lancaster, plays the girl spell bound by the desert’s moods and elemental passions. Her meeting with gambler John Hodiak ends control over her by her mother, Mary Astor, who also rules the small desert town. Despite her mother’s objections, the enmity cf Hodiaks pal, Wendell Carey, and the warnings of state patrolman, Burt Lancaster, who loves her. Lizabeth continues to see Hodiak. She cannot understand the relationship between him and Carey, nor fathom his angry reluctance io discuss the mysterious death of his wife. The suspense mounts until an unforgetable climax reveals the details of Hodiak's evil past, and its effect on all concerned. Regent Theatre Now Showing: “Down to Earth," starring Rita Hayworth and Larry Parks. “Down To Earth,’’ is a spectacular Technicolor musical, starring Rita Hayworth and Larry Parks. Others in the cast are Marc Platt, Roland Culver, James Gleason, Edward Everett Horton, Adele Jergens, George Macready and William Frawley. For Miss Hayworth it marks the return to the lavish “Cover Girl,” type of musical. Rita is singing, dancing and romancing in a breathtaking wardrobe of glamorous gowns, things that carried her to fame in Hollywood. For Larry Parks, this film'means that all the praise showered upon him for his portrayal of Al Jolson in “The Jolson Story” has not gone unheeded —his predicted rise to stardom is a reality. The story can be described as a magic touch of enchantment that takes one out of this world into beauty, music, mystery, dancing and spectacle.
