Licensee Criticised for Refusing Meal
P.A." INVERCARGILL, June 3. The chairman, Mr R.' C. Abernethy, S.M., at the annual meeting of the Wallace Licensing Committee, when a report was received that a Southland licensee had refused meals, remarked: “It is hoped that tiieie a,e auc many licensees remiss on this matter, but we ask that you give required service in the question of meals”. The police report stated there was no proof against the licensee. Mr Abernethy remarked that there had been a number of complaints throughout New Zealand about hotel licencees not supplying meals, and there was a good deal, of public agitation. “You have licence, and you should.see that the public gets a fair run”, Mr Abernethy said to publicans present at the meeting. In a case where a person was ’not supplied with a meal, he should take tne proper course of laying information, through the police, after which the matter could be threshed out in Court, said Mr Abernethy. He gave a warning that if the Court entered a conviction, Licensing Committees would take a serious view of the matter.
