AUCKLAND. .Tune 2. Awaiting the arrival of the Diane from Sydney to-day was the Waihi citizens’ ambulance with two St. John Ambulance attendants and a nurse to take home Mrs Doreen Davey aged 29, of Waihi, who. went to Australia foi’ treatment by Mr John Braund and later was ooerated on for hours by Sydney Hospital surgeons after Mr Braund had pronounced the case hopeless. The surgeons had to remove about three-quarters of Mrs Davey’s lower jaw. Later, her face will be rebuilt by plastic surgery. Her husband, who accomoanied her to Australia, said the doctors have high hopes of recovery. Mr Davey said Mr Braund at first assured his wife he could effect a cure. The general opinion seemed to be that Mr Braund had waited to be told to ston treating sufferers rather than admit he could not cure cancer.
