Review of Watersiders’ Ban on Dutch Ships

WELLINGTON, June 2.

“This union would be pleased to see the restoration of friendly trade, if no disabilities remain”, said the national secretary of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union, Mr T. Hill, to-day, in reference to an announcement by the Wellington agents of the K.P.M. Line that it was only.a question of time before the Dutch shipping service between the East Indies and New Zealand would be resumed.

Mr Hill said the union had noted with considerable interest that the ban on Dutch shipping had been removed by 19 trade unions in Australia. Probably the reasons for the original imposition of the ban no longer applied, he said, but the union had not yet received official advice from the Australian Council of Trade Unions. He expected that the whole question would be reviewed shortly by the national executive.
