PROPOSAL TO SHIFT KOKIRI HOTEL TO STILLWATER
When Inspector M. J. Angland objected to the application of the licensee of the Stillwater Hotel, Francis Collins Buckley to a six months’ extension of the permit to carry on a temporary bar, the Westland Licensing Committee was tola by Mr J. W Hannan for applicant that Buckley had entered into an agreement for the sale and purchase of the Kokiri Hotel, and to have it removed to Stillwater and additions made. , .. The'lnspector drew the committee’s attention to the fact that the Stillwater Hotel was destroyed by fire on December 7 1946. He considered he had been fair and tolerant, but the matter seemed to have been postponed indefinitely. Mr Hannan said a permit had been granted some eight or nine months ago, for part of the plans, but materials had been irqpossible to procure. The lowest estimate for the new building was £16,000, and he thought the committee would agree that it was not possible for the licensee to get a return on that amount. Three months might be sufficient time for the renewal, which contemplated placing the new building 100 yards nearer the railway station than the old building. The committee extended the permit for three months. GRANT OF TRANSFERS There were no objections by the police to applications for transfers and the following were approved: — Dobson Hotel, Charles E.
