SACKING OF 150,000 CIVIL SERVANTS IS APPROVED IN FRANCE

(Rec. 9.30). FARIS, June 1. The National Assembly gave Dr. Schuman’s Government the largest vote of confidence it has ever received—4o2 to 183—on a proposed Bill to sack 150,000 civil servants as an economy measure. Only the Communists voted against the Government.

BRITISH CREDITS FOR THE FRENCH

PARIS, June 1. Britain has signed c.n agreement to give France £10,000,000 credit for the second half of 1948 to assist French purchases from the sterling area, with which France has a large deficit.
