MILLERTON NOTES

(Our own Correspondent? MILLERTON, June 1. Mr H. Milligan has left Millerton for Greymouth. Mr J. Fox, of Christchurch, is visiting his parents/Mr'and Mrs C. Fox, Millerton. Mrs T. Grace, of Millerton, has left on a visit to Christchurch. Mr J.-Ewart left during the week for Mr W. Watson, union delegate on the Central Committee left to attend the Miners Conference in Greymouth. Mr. J. Sheridan has left Millerton on a visit to Nelson • ,as also has Mrs J. • Taylor. The Hon. W. H. Mclntyre is attending the Nelson -Education Board meeting at Nelsofi. The Rangers seniors and schoolboys soccer teams travelled to Westport on Sunday . to. play the Westport teams. ' Millerton seniors won by 6 goals to ' 2 and Schoolboys won by 5 goals to 1. The Rugby and nockey games which were to have been played during the week-end were postponed owing to the bad weather conditions.

The Millerton school committee held a .bazaar in the picture hall on Friday.night, to raise funds to beautify the school play ■ ground, and for other general improvements. The function was a great success, and a great deal of credit must bo given to the Ladies’ Hockey Club members for the excellent work they-did. The school teacher, Mr Watson, and his pupils, must also be commended. Mr T. McGhee, chairman of the Country Community Centre, and Mr J. Johnstone, a district delegate attended a meeting in the Rechabite Hall, to deal with some local problems. After an attentive hearing, llnspeakers were accorded a vo;e of thanks. Mr W. Watson was in the chair.

Mr McGhee and Mr J. Murphy attended a meeting during the week with the Millerton sports bodies. Those present received the explanation given by the two speakers, <l3 satisfactory. •
