’ [Our own Correspondent] HOKlijux-a, June 1. Magistrate’s Court:— At a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court this morning, before Mr a. McLachlan, S.M.-, a resident of Ross was fined lus and costs for being lound on licensed premises aitei hours.
A charge was heard against th< Rimu Gold Dredging Company, Ltd., in that, on iNovemoer 18, at wombat Creek, Mahinapua, they end uniawiui ly authorise a lire to be lit in the Mahmapua forestry fire district during the closed period irom August - to April 2, according to the Forestry Act, j. 922.
A charge against. David Smart, manager Ol tne Rimu Gold Dredging Company, Ltd., for, on November 18, railing to cease work in order to suppress the fire and inform officials of its spreading, was also heard. Mr M. B. James, lor the accused, stated that although no written permission had ever been given trtr timber burning, it had always been understood that, tires could be lit.
The company was lined £5 and costs. N. M, Nutting was fined 10s and costs for allowing his cow to roam untethered.
Judgment by default was given in the following case: G. Penman v. G. Honev, £8 4s. In the Warden’s Court, the following applications were heard: —J. Eadie, water race. J. Eadie, ordinary claim. Butler Te Koiti, surrender absolute. R. Woods, renewal (recommended for consent of Minister). G. Friend, special sea beach claim. J. Christenson, special sea beach claim. W. Boyd, surrender absolute. J. Moore, two ordinary licences. A. Hedwig, renewal. P. McCormack, special claim (recommended for consent of Minister). J. Parker, special claim. A. Christenson, special sea beach claim. A. School A at 9 a.m. Kokatahi ano. Koiterangi v. Ross and Ruatapu at 10 a.m. ' At the weekly meeting of the SubUnion the statement tor the trial matches was submitted and showed a loss of £lO. Expenses amounted to £75, and receipts to £65. The West Coast team will train at Cass Square on Tuesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. The caretaking club for Saturday is to be Kiwis. The Sub-Union resolved to invite the St. Bede's third grade first fifteen to visit Hokitika towards the end of June or early in July to play a match with a local team ro be selected. The team would require billets if the tour could be arranged. It was decided to ask the west Coast Union to supply a complete cop\ of the fixtures of me secondary schom matches so that grounds and referees could be arranged also to assist m arranging bus travel. ‘The secretary is to arrange for the use of the Mental Hospital ground for training matches. The meeting of the SubUnion next week will be held on Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock. Mr E. Langdon was appointed manager ol the Westland junior reps., who leave the Road Services garage at noon on Monday, June 7, and change at the Australasian Hotel. Mr E. Raine is to travel with the team in charge of equipment. Mr Kelly will be in charge of transport for the Westland members of the West Coast team. Road Services asked for more co-operation from teams in ordering buses so as to assist in arranging same. The clubs are to be advised to order their buses earlier in the week.
