Australia to Aid East Indies Oil Companies
C'CANBERRA, May 28 The Australian Government has undertaken to assist private companies in the Netherlands East Indies to obtain special equipment to step up oil production. The object is to maintain continuity and private motorists in spite of the trouble in the Middle East. Figures released to-day bv the Commonwealth Statistician’s Department show that 12,401,709 gallons of motor spirit were bought from the Netherlands East Indies in'*the July to March period,* compared with 405,079 gallons for the whole of the proceeding year.
