Customs Revenue for May Shows Increase
The petrol tax received by the Greymouth office of the Customs Department during May, 1948, exceeded that for the same month of the previous year by £613, the figure rising to £3265 from £2652. Customs duty received rose by more than £lOOO from £6616 to £BlO3. There was a slight increase in the beer duty receipts. Last year in May the office received £4279, whereas for May of this year the amount was £4426. Gold duty dropped from £1704 to £1413 and sales tax from £7157 to £6617. The following are
