General MacArthur

; WASHINGTON, May 29 ' General MacArthur has cabled Senator Styles Bridges, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, that he does not want to return td the United States until, after the. Republican Convention which -opens on June 21.

General MacArthur told Senator Bridges: “My return at this time, however sincere, would- be misunderstood and condemned by many as politically inspired.” The general stated that, “following the settlement of the political issues to be resolved next month.” he would, be free to place himself at the disposal of the committee if it desired dark fication of his views.

Senator Bridges said he would place General MacArthur’s reply betfore the full Appropriations Committee voted yesterday to ask him to return.
