N.Z. RADIO STATION CHANGES

New Ones to Start Soon More Power and Altered Wave Lengths P.A. WELLINGTON, May 31. The Mininster in charge of broadcasting, Hon. F. Jones, and the Post-master-General, Hon. F. Hackett, in a joint statement, announce that the operating frequencies (wave-lengths) and call-signs of some of the New Zealand broadcasting stations will oe changed as from September 1 next. Five new radio stations will operate from that date. This, together with an increase in the power of the present transmitters will involve certain alterations. At the same time an endeavour is being made to reduce the intei - Terence by Australian stations. The statement. says that, although the increase in power of the New Zealand stations will help to decrease the interference of Australian radio stations on the same wave-length, as some Australian stations are also increasing their power, the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation is confering with the- Australian administration on the matter.

A frequency allocation for both countries has been worked out, and this should ensure the minimum of interference in both Dominions m future.

Other changes will enable the more important stations to improve thei?; coverage, and to mal<e better use of the new aerial systems which are to be adopted. ‘■'Although the stations affected will be tuned in at slightly different places on the receiver dials, the benefit to the listeners generally throughout New Zealand will offset any initial inconvenience,” the statement adds.
