U.S. SHIPPING ARMS TO PERSIA

WASHINGTON, May 28. The State Department to-day disclosed plans foi' the shipment of war surplus material worth 60,000,000 dollars to Persia. The supplies will include tanks, mortars, fighter aeroplanes, and machine-guns. Persia will pay 10,000,000 dollars for them on a longterm credit, basis, • and the United States will have to pay over 15,000000 dollars in freight and handling charges to deliver the articles. Mr John Jernegan, chief of the State Denartment’s Greece, Turkey, and Persia Department, told the Senate Appropriations Committee to-dav that Persia required the supplies to maintain her “internal security”. He said that there was “no chance” of the weapons falling into the hands of the Arabs fighting the Jews in Palestine.
