Rifle Shooting

The 21st annual meeting of the Westport Small Bore Rifle Club was held in the Army Drill Hall.on Thursday evening when the following were present: President, Mr D. J. Cunningham; vice-president, Mr A. Cox; secretary- treasurer, Mr J. R. Keoghan, Messrs N. Perkins, J. Kissell, J. Egan, J. Marshall, G. White, L. Wood. N. Palmer, M. Simonsen, Mr and Mrs D. G. Bain, Messrs D. Turner, R. M. Cunningham, H. V. Palmer,' R. W. Palmer, R. Powell, R. Skelton. The balance sheet and secretary's report showed the club to be in a very sound position and the previous season a very successful one. The election, of officers resulted: — ■ Club President, Mr D. J. Cunningham (re-elected): vice-president, Mi' A. Cox; patron, Mr W. Spence; sec-retary-treasurer. Mr J. R. Keoghan: assistant Messrs D. G. Bain and D. J. Cunningham; club .captains and range officers, Messrs T, Hutchison, N. Perkins, Geoff White; committee, -D. Turner, H. V. Palmer, A. L. Williams, R. M. Cunningham; junior representative, Mr N. Palmer; target judge, Mr J. R. Keoghan; hon. auditor, Mr P. L. Struthers. The standard ll.bull target and the “dropped point” system of handicapping which was tried out last year was adopted as a standard for the club. The subs, and competitions were not altered from last year’s programme. May 28 and 29 were set down for an “own start” shoot and competitions will start the following week-end. Mr F. M. Mitchell and Mr R. L. Jordan were elected the first life members of the club in recognition for their excellent work in the past. The only alteration to the club’s construction was the changing of the name to the Westport Small Bore Rifle Club. The word miniature has been dropped by both the parent bodies, the N.Z. Small Bore Rifle Association and the Association of Small Bore Rifle Clubs, London. I c has always been felt that miniature was misleading when referring to the sport as the rifles used are small only as regards the calibre, and weigh close on ten pounds

After a lengthy list of business had been dealt with a vote of thanks to the chaii’ and to Mr P. L. Struthers concluded the meeting.'
