OBITUARY
MR ROBERT E. GROOM - • The death occurred, on Saturday, of a well known and esteemed resident of Greymouth, Mr Robert Edward Groom. He had been for some time in failing health. Born at West Bronwich, London, N. W., 71 years ago, Mr Groom, in partnership with his brothers, conducted a butchery business here for many years, ana was recognised as an energetic and efficient tradesman. He was a past president of the West Coast O'd Boys Association.’ of which he was a foundation member. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife. two. sons, Robert and ¥7llllOOl (Greymouth), and five daughters, Mesdames E. Skelton (Dunedin), V. Crompton (Ashburton) E. Machirus (Christchurch, P. Duncan (Greymouth) and G. Thompson (Cobden). He leaves one brother, George (Greymouth) and two sisters Mesdames W. Wick (Runanga) and A. Gilbert (Paroa).
The death occurred in England last week of the Countess of Liverpool, wife of the Fifth Earl of Liverpool, who -was Governor-General or New Zealand from 1912 to 1917. A Hollywood cable records the death of Dame May Whittv. at the age of 82. She came to Hollywood in 1937 and became one of the screen’s foremost character actresses
