Recognition for Life Saving

CHRISTCHURCH, April 15. For risking his life in rescuing, Mrs Ngaire Morton, aged 38, of Hamilton from drowning at Hamilton on December 30, 1946, James Lawrence Talbot, aged 40, a plumber, of 80 Taylor street, Hamilton, has been awarded a letter of commendation bv the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand. According to the citation, Mr Talbot was cycling across the town bridge over the Waikato river when he noticed a woman floating face downwards in mid-stream. He removed his '.clothing, and, althougn onlv a fair swimmer, dived in. After swimming 300 yards, he reached Mrs Morton, who by then was , floating on her back in a semi-conscious condition. , Talbot then swam another 50 yards with the woman to the shore, where he applied artificial respiration.
