Hiroshima Proposes Peace Memorial on Bomb Site

[N.Z.P.A.—Reuter Cable]. (Rec. 11.0). TOKIO, April 15. An appeal to the world to dedicate the city of Hiroshima to the cause of peace was made to-day by the Mayor, Shizo Hamai. He said: “We and the world have learned through the searing radio-active blast and the fires that followed it, what atomic war might mean for mankind. Surely, it would help the cause of peace if we could build a memorial park and a hall in Hiroshima, subscribed for by the people of the world, and dedicated to world peace”. Shizo Hamai, himself a . sufferer from the effects of the atomic bomb, this week will ask the people of the world for contributions to the memorial, which the city plans to erect at the spot believed to have been the centre of the atomic bomb explosion. _
