ARABS DESTROY JEWISH CONVOY NEAR HOLY CITY

On Mt Scopus there has been the greatest am push killing so far in Jerusalem. Arabs attacKed a Jewish convoy. About 40 .lews were killed. The light' started, at the intersection of King George road and the main road. Arabs ambushed a Jewish convoy oi 10 vehicles attempting to reach Hadassah Hospital on Mount •scopus. 'there were many seriously wounded. Five Jewish venicies were wrecked, including a Jewish Red Shield ambulance, besides which a doctor lay dead. British Army two-pounders went into action to-day against'strong Arab forces attacking the convoy. Highland light infantry forced a truce ano. they intervened with shell-lire. Hu troops saw\ piles of burning bodies scattered around the blazing veiuuxe>. The British I rescued a number oi Jews from burning vehicles and took the wounded to hospital A British soldier was killed and a senior ponce officer was seriously wounded. 7‘he director of the Hadassah Hospital, Dr YassKy, was among the jews killed. The first, army lorries to reach the scene evacuated survivors under heavy Arab lire from surrounding hillsides. The bodies of a number oi Jewish men and women had peen flung into one burning pile at the roadside near two blazing lorries. More bodies were burning in a fivefeet deep crater, whiefj a land mine had blasted in the road. Arab casualties brought to hospital were six killed and 16’ wounded. The British G.0.C., LieutenantGeneral Macmillan, was brought to Jerusalem from Kalapdia airport, five miles away, in an armoured car, after his cream-coloured saloon car, had been twice hit by bullet duping the Mount Scopus battle. JEWISH POLITICAL PLANS A Jewish Agency spokesman announced that the agency had completed plans for taking over the Jewish State after May 15. A 13-man Cabinet would include a Prime Minister and Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Defence, Finance and Immigration. United States Asks U.N.O. to Seek Truce (Rec. 9.10) NEW YORK, April 13. The United States proposed to-day that the U.N.O. Security Council should order the cessation of all political activities in Palestine. This would mean, in effect, that the Jews would be directed to halt their plans to establish their newly proclaimed Jewish Government, and that the Arab League would be ordered, to discontinue reported plans to create a Palestine Government. Three main points of the United States plan are: (1) The immediate cessation of all acts of violence. (2) The creation of a truce commission to go to Palestine to report on compliance with a “cease lire” order. (3) A standstill on all political and military acti&ns.
