WILL CANADA ACCEPT CZECH DIPLOMAT ?

(Rec. 9.50) OTTAWA, April 14 The Cechoslovakian Government has appointed as its Consul in Montreal a diplomat whose withdrawal from Washington was requested by the United States, and it has asked the Canadian External Affairs Department to recognise the appointment.

This diplomat is M. Evzon Syrokotka. He has arrived in Montreal and the External Affairs Department is studying his appointment. M. Sykrokotka was an attache in Washington. The Soviet Embassy in Ottawa has advised the Canadian Government that Lithuania is part of the U.S.S.R. by “the sovereign will of the Lithuanian people,” in a Note published to-day. This is the Soviet’s reply to the statement by the Canadian Department of External Affairs last week, in which the Canadian Government said that it had not recognised the absorption of Lithuania into the Soviet Union. The department rebuked the Soviet Embassy for calling on Lithuanians in Canada to register with the Embassy, saying that the Embassy should have made it clear that registration would be voluntary. CZECH ELECTIONS POSTPONED PRAGUE:, April 13. It is officially announced that the Czechoslovak general elections will be held on May 30, instead of May 23, as previously arranged.
