BRITISH ORPHANS TO BE BROUGHT TO N.Z. BY GOVERNMENT
WELLINGTON, April 15
Cabinet has decided to bring a number of British orphan and other British children to New Zealand. This was stated by the Minister of Immigration, Hon. A. McLagan, in reply to an enquiry tonight. The Minister said the number would be decided in accordance with the children available and the number of approved guardians who would receive them in New Zealand. The Department of Labour, said Mr McLagan, was at present making a survev of the number of sxxitable homes availably for the reception of children.
When this survey had been sufficiently advanced, arrangements would then be made with the High Commissioner’s Office in Londoxx and the British headquarters of the Overseas Leagtip for the selection of suitable British children to be v received into New Zealand homes. The final selection as to the suitaoilitv of the children would be made by the New Zealand immigration officials at New Zealand House in London.
