Man Loses Life in Hut Fire

P.A. INVERCARGILL, April 13. A single man, Thomas Concannon, aged about 50, emffirwed at the Niagara Sawmilling Company’s Blackhorn mill, was burned to death in his hut at 3 o’clock this morning. Concannon had had visitors until midnight and everything appeared to be in order when they left. Three hours later one employee of the mill saw the hut in flames and raised the alarm. An attempt was made to rescue the occupant, but when the hut door was opened the men were confronted with a sheet of flame and nothing could be done. An inquest will be held to-morrow. The deceased came to New Zealand about 20 years ago from Britain.
