BATTLES WEST OF HOLY CITY
JERUSALEM, April 12 Battles on the western approaches to Jerusalem have cut all communications between the city and the coast.
Arab field guns bombarded two Jewish settlements five miles west of Jerusalem, flanking Castel. The Haganah radio claims that a British officer and an Iraqi officer were killed when Haganah forces completed the destruction of the Arab village of Calunia. near Mount Castel. Palestine police report that 11 Egyptians were killed and five were wounded in an attack on the Jewish settlement of Kfar Darom, south of Gaza. The fighting ceased after the British commander in the area called for a truce.
A Jewish sniper shot and wounded the assistant Lebanese Consul in Jerusalem. John Hazzu.
Jews attacked, near Rehoboth British troops and an ammunition train travelling to Egypt from Lydda and looted a large quantity of arms. A gun battle occurred between the troops and the attackers.
The Zionist General Council at a meeting in Tel Aviv ratified a. resolution to bring the Irgun Zvai Leumi and the Stern Gang under Jewish national discipline.
