U.N.O. Inquiry into Communist Coup in Czechoslovakia
(Rec. 9.50). NEW YORK, April 12. Mr Warren Austin (United States representative) to-day suggested that the U.N.O. Security Council should name a sub-committee to examine the charges of Soviet help in the Czechoslovakian Communist coup. He said that the sub-committee should hear evidence from witnesses. Mr Warren Austin said: “The Czechoslovak Government’s rejection of this Council's invitation to participate in the debate, does not give me a feeling of confidence that all is well If this regime had a clear conscience, surely it would seize this opportunity of presenting its side of the case to the Security Council”. M. Gromyko (Soviet) accused the United States of interference in Czechoslovakia’s affairs. Pie said that the United States had launched an intrigue, which had back-fired.
