COMMUNISM RESPONSIBLE. SAYS MARSHALL Same Line as in Italy and France
(N.Z.P.A.—Reuter Cable) (Rec. 10.15) BOGOTA, April 13. General Marshall, U.S. Secretary of State, to-day flatly accused International Communism of inspiring the Bogota insurrection. “This situation must not be judged on a local basis, however tragic it may be for the Colombian Government and people,” said General Marshall-
“The occurence goes far beyond Colombia. It is the same definite pattern as the occurances which have precipitated the strikes in France and in Italy, and .which now are endeavouring to prejudice the elections in Italy.
“In the action which we take here, we must have clearly in view the fact that this is a world affair —and not merely a Colombian nor a Latin-American one.”
General Marshall made his statement to a meeting of the PanAmerican conference delegates, . and he then repeated it to a press conference later.
