U.S.A. CONGRESS SUPPORT FOR EUROPE AGAINST AGGRESSION

(Rec. 11.50) NEW YORK, April 13 The United States Congressional leaders apparently are willing to take limited action to support Western Eurone against aggression, but they do not think that the Senate would ratify a treaty obligating the United States to go to war to defend any Western European nations, says the New York “Times” Washington correspondent, Mr James Reston. Key Republicans believe that the maximum commitment that could be expected would be one similar to the interAmerican Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance which was signed in Brazil on July 30, 1947. This, itself, would be an unprecedented commitment by the United States in Europe.
