RECORD MASS FLIGHT OF U.S. SUPERTRESSES
Now En Route for Germany
(Rec. 10.40) NEW YORK, April 12 The largest mass flight of Superfortress bombers since the end of the war toon off from America, for Germany shortly before midnight on Monday. They departed from the Hill Airbase in Kansas.
Lieutenant-Colonel Frand Ellis, is the commander of the flight. He said that it was a routine training mission, but he refused to disclose the number of aircraft or the men making the flight. The bombers began leaving at fifteen minute intervals.
The last one to take off was expected to leave about 7 a.m. to-mor-row (Tuesday). Colonel Ellis said there will be stops at' Massachusetts on Tuesday, and for Tuesday night at Goosebay, in Labrador. The aircraft after that would proceed independently until they rendezvous over Bres, in France, near dawn on on Thursday. He stated that the Superfortresses would fly in formation over Paris, and on to their destination, which is Furstenfeldbruck, which is about four thousand six hundred miles from Goosebay.
