PUBLIC SERVICE ASSN. HOLDS FOR SECURITY OF STATE
WELLINGTON, April 12
At a meeting of the National Executive committee of the Public Service Association tonight, the following resolution was carried unanimously:—
“That this national executive committee of the New Zealand Public Service Association, democratically elected by various sections and by the annual conference of the association, unanimously affirms its adherence to the principles of democracy which base their change upon persuasion instead of upon force. Accordingly, the association rejects authoritarianism of any kind, whether from the Right, Centre or Left. This association is non-political in the sense that it supports or opposes no one political party, and it is nonsectarian.
“Because of its loyalty to the democratic principles upon which the British constitution is based, this executive committee, in line with its support for the Political Disabilities Act, 1936, is opposed to any victimisation against a public servant, merely because of his political or religious views.
At the same time, and for the same reasons, and for the further reason that the State is entitled in security matters to th fi unquestioned loyalty of all public servants; the executive supports the removal or other disciplining of any public servant, guilty of any illegal act against the security of the State.”
