BABY DROWNED IN SUMP

LEVIN, April 12. Preparations for a birthday party on a farm near Levin on Saturday afternoon were cut short in tragic circumstances when the 20-monlhs-old baby of the property owner was drowned in a sump. The child was Donald Joseph Malcolm, son of Mr Finlay Oliver Malcolm. The chcild was missed .about 2 p.m. and was found by his father hall an hour later. Artificial respiration proved unavailing. MAORI BABY DROWNED AUCKLAND. April 12. A Maori child, Mata Paul, aged 18 months, wandered away from his parents’ home at Pakanae, Kaikoiie, and was drowned. When the child’s absence was noticed a search was made and the father found the body in a nearby creek.. At an inquest tne Coroner, Mr A. E. Andrews, returned a verdict- of accidental drowning.
