The Mayor and 15 councillors of Corleone caused hundreds of other Socialists to follow their example when they transferred en bloc from the Communist-allied Socialist Party led by the Vice-Premier (Mr Saragat). Corleone was known as one of the most extreme Left of the Sicilian towns. _ . The Communist and Social controlled Popular Democratic Front in an electoral manifesto, describes Senor de Gasperei’s Government as being tied to hysterical and reactionary American and European groups which were preparing, a third world war.
