SUDDEN CUT IN NORTH ISLAND

P.A. WELLINGTON. April 9. Power’ users must be cut down a full 20 per cent, of to-day’s consumption, or emergency cuts may be necessary. Announcing this the Minister of Works (Hon. R. Semple) said that the recent cold snap had caused a sharp rise in the consumption of power in the North Island. Earlier in the week he informed the public that the degree of rationing obtained was insufficient and that the second cut of 10 per cent, had not been implemented. The demand for power has now risen another nine per cent, so users must cut down a full 20 per cent, of to-day’s consumption in order to comply with the given allocation.
