Soldiers Held Guilty For Obeying Officers

NUREMBERG, April 8. The American War Crimes Tribunal ruled that any soldier who murdered innocent civilians as guilty of the crime as the superior who ordered him to do it. The ruling was given in the case of 21 S.-S. officers, including five S.S. generals, the leader of whom, Qtto Olhlendorf, admitted that his group killed 90,000 people, mainly Jews, during the invasion of Russia. The judgment will be delivered tomorrow. The court stated: “It is a fallacy that a soldier is required to do everything his superior officer orders. A subordinate is bound to obey omy lawful orders, otherwise a sergeant could order a corporal to shoot his lieutenant, and be absolved from the blame.” .
