Over seventy Women’s Institute members travelled to Karamea last Saturday, to attend the annual meeting of the Buller Federation. They were met at the journey's end by a large number of .Karamea members, who had prepared an excellent morning tea. The meeting opened with the Institute Ode and Aspirations. Mrs Satherley, Karamea’s president, extended a cordial welcome and expressed the hope that he meeting would be a happy and successful one. Mrs Strang, Federation president, thanked Mrs Satherley and her Institute for their warm welcome, ai;d on behalf of the Federation extended good wishes to all delegates and members.
Mrs Satherley then presented Mesdames Strang, Tyler (secretary) and Philp (treasurer) with beautiful floral sprays. Mrs 'Kirby, past president of the Karamea Women’s Institute, also presented Mrs Satherley with a beautiful spray. The minutes of the last annual meeting were adopted as read, and delegates were advised to report to their Institutes, that a Drama Circle would be held in Westport on August 26 and 27.
The financial report and balance sheet as presented by Mrs Philp (treasurer) was adopted as very satisfactory. Mrs Strang congratulated Mrs Philp on the sound financial state of the Federation. VOLUNTARY ORGANISERS’ REPORTS Mesdames Kirby and Richards reported on the year’s work, and thanked members who had co-operatqd with them. Both agreed to carry on for another year. The Institutes’ six monthly reports were read; proving that the movement is going ahead in this district. The following remits were discussed: (a) That regular tests for T.E. should be carried out with all cow’s in rural areas. —It was decided that this be referred to the Farmers’ Union, (b-j That bacon he more thoroughly cured befoie it was rolled.—lt was decided that the secretary get in touch with the Fooo Controller, (c) That the Government be asked to expedite the release of coloured towels. Resolved that, the Secretary write to the Minister of Supply requesting that towels be more equally 7 distributed. Mrs Farrell spoke on the need for more members to take “Home and Country,” the journal of the .New Zealand Women’s Institutes. It was decided that the half-yearly meeting be held at Waimangaroa, the date to be decided by the executive. A hearty vote of thanks to the chair, also to the Karamea Women’s Institute for morning and afternoon teas, was passed with acclamation. The election of officers and committee resulted - as follows:' —President, Mrs O. Tyler; vice-president, Mrs V. Pearson; secretary, Mrs G. Farrell: treasurer, Mrs Philp (reelected); committee. Mesdames Geeves, Smith, Ryan, Nelson, Jackson and Coburn.
